Orland Park, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a “Dangerous Heat and Humidity Warning” for Northern Illinois for Wednesday and Thursday (July 23-24, 2025) including for residents of the Orland Fire Protection District. Interim Fire Chief John Purtill said the warning includes projected “Peak Heat Indices” of 105 F and may include some possible severe storms.

Purtill urged residents to take basic precautions including:

1 – Hydrate frequently during the day. Drinking water can help prevent heat related health problems

2 – Wear loose, light clothing when outside.

3 – Avoid heavy activity and direct sunlight. Find a cool indoor location.

4 – Reschedule outdoor activities.

5 – Please check on children and especially Senior Citizens

“During a severe heat wave warning, it is important for everyone to take precautions to remain healthy and safe. But also check on your neighbors, including seniors to ensure they are ok. Seniors are often the most impacted by these severe heat waves,” Purtill said.

“Also check on children and ensure they are drinking a lot of water and remain in the shade or indoors, and also check on your pets. Do not leave anyone, child or adult or a pet in a vehicle.”

Most government buildings serve as Cooling Centers during operating hours.

“Using commonsense and being attentive to seniors, children and our pets can help avoid problems,” Purtill said.

“The Orland Fire Protection District is ready as we always are to respond to all emergency needs during this severe weather situation.”
