RIP Wesley B. PeakBack to Retiree Connetion Page
It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that the Orland Fire Protection District announces the loss of
Firefighter Wesley B. Peak
Wes Peak passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident on September 7, 2014. He was a 7-year Veteran of the Orland Fire Protection District. Wes’s application for the Orland Fire Protection District described his love for the department in the area he grew up. His description of the department and the family atmosphere made Orland the department he wanted to work. Unfortunately, our fire department family lost a member way too early. Wes was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife, Melissa, his son, Jaxson, and his parents, William and Linda.
Wes started with Peotone Fire Protection District where he found his love for the fire service. It was this love that would ultimately lead him to his family here at the Orland Fire District. Throughout Wes’s career he worked hard to continue his education and earned many Illinois State Fire Marshall Certifications.
Wes was a distinguished member of many southland departments throughout his career. Wes was a firefighter at Citgo Fire Department in Lemont. While going to paramedic school, Wes worked at Kurtz Ambulance Service. From there, Wes worked for Westmont, Flossmoor, and Monee Fire Departments.
Wes grew up in the Orland area and remarked upon coming to Orland that he knew this was going to be a great place to spend a career and it has a real family atmosphere. Wes was a member of the Orland Fire District Graduating Class of 2007. Wes was officially sworn in on September 24, 2008 after successfully completing his probationary year.
Wes earned many awards and commendations in his career in Orland. The District received many letters from patients that he had assisted throughout his career. One of his patients sent a simple, but meaningful note, “A simple act of kindness has a beauty all its own”.
Visitation for Wes is scheduled for Thursday September 11, 2014 from 3 – 9 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home (15525 South 73rd Avenue, Orland Park, IL.). A Fire Department walk through is scheduled for 7 pm on Thursday, please assemble by 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services begin directly at Parkview Church (11100 Orland Parkway, Orland Park, IL.) at 10 am on Friday, September 12, 2014. Procession will immediately follow the services. Interment will be at Peotone Cemetery (Route 50 and West Corning Road).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jaxson Memorial Fund, in memory of Wes, at any PNC Bank.
