Delivering "the Best for the Most"

EACH DAY we staff a minimum of 10 dedicated Advanced Life Support (ALS) companies with at least 26 Firefighter-Paramedics to respond to your emergencies!
   -- 4 ALS engine companies
   -- 2 ALS truck companies
   -- 4 ALS ambulances

Each ALS ambulance responds with 2 paramedic-firefighters.
Each ALS engine and truck responds with a minimum of 2 paramedic-firefighters out of the three-person crew.

BEST FOR THE MOST

In order to provide the BEST patient care, we respond with a minimum of 5 well trained personnel to EVERY emergency medical call.  EMS (Emergency Medical Services) is delivered by our Paramedic-Firefighters, who are additionally certified in:

  ·         Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  ·         Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
  ·         Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

PRIMARY PROVIDERS

Starting with Basic Life Support supplies (such as first aid equipment); All ALS companies carry a full complement of Advanced Life Support equipment including airway management devices, cardiac monitor/defibrillators (equipped with state of the art “12 lead” ECG’s), IV setups and medications.

Furthermore, in addition to FIREFIGHTING capabilities, each ALS Engine and Truck company carry RESCUE tools including vehicle extrication equipment (i.e. – “Jaws of Life”).  Therefore, these Fire Based EMS First Responder apparatus (Fire Engines & Trucks) are truly your FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE no matter what the nature of the call:    FIRE – RESCUE – EMS

As Primary Providers, ALS Fire Engines & Trucks are strategically located to respond quickly to WHATEVER the call for help.  Then, instead of having to transport the patient, these units are “available” sooner and able to respond again to the ever increasing additional back to back calls for help.

The BEST  for the MOST - it could be YOU!

Did you know it only takes 4 - 6 minutes before irreversible brain damage occurs if you do not have a pulse and respirations?

Our GPS dynamic dispatch system takes into account the vehicle's location in order to send the closest unit(s) to the call.

We send a minimum of 5 personnel (4 paramedic-firefighters minimum) to each ambulance call to provide the best care to our citizens.

The Orland Fire Protection District responded to 8,311 calls in 2006 averaging 23 calls per day in 2006. An average ALS call lasts about 1:30 hours.
