Life-Saving Efforts
The
Orland Fire Protection District Board of Trustees recently
recognized the life-saving efforts of two individuals at the Riviera
Country Club in Orland Park. Employee Cory White and club member
Patty Rogers, a nurse, responded when 74 year old Phillip Varnagis
went into cardiac arrest. The pair initiated cardio pulmonary
resuscitation and used the facility’s automatic external
defibrillator to save Varnagis until help arrived.
White and Rogers were unable to attend the board’s recent meeting to
accept their awards; however, Varnagis was in attendance and was
able to thank the Orland Fire Protection District crew that
responded to the call.
"We're happy to recognize the efforts of Mr. White and Ms. Rogers
and thank them for initiating CPR and using the AED to save Mr.
Varnagis," said Deputy Fire Chief Bryant Krizik, adding that this
was the second time a life was saved with an AED at an Orland Park
fitness facility.
